Characters Pub is proud to partner with the Power Packs Project to feed families this Thanksgiving

On Thanksgiving Day, many families sit down together to enjoy each other’s company, laugh, drink and usually overeat. Isn’t that what the holidays are all about? Unfortunately, for some families in our community their meaning of the season is unlike our own, their bountiful feast may be less then you imagine.

“Here at Characters Pub, we believe that everyone has the right to a healthy holiday meal in their home, because it’s important to be surrounded by family.” – Meghan Young, Chef/Owner

We are proud to partner with the Power Packs Project for our annual Thanksgiving Day Feast. The organization provides weekend food as well as nutritional information to families who are food insecure when the school’s lunch program is not available to them.

A crew of volunteers, in conjunction with our community partners, will prepare 500 hot, nutritious Thanksgiving meals. Each meal offers individual servings of turkey, stuffing, candied yams, fresh green beans, roll, butter, pumpkin pie and milk as well as ample shares of cranberry sauce and gravy, because you can never have too much gravy.

Early Thanksgiving morning, our team of volunteers will prepare and package the meals for loading into one of three delivery vans, each van destine for a local school. The schools participating this year are Carter MacRae Elementary, Burrowes Elementary and Reynolds Middle School. Volunteers at each school distribute the meals to families that have been selected by the Power Packs Project team. One of our goals this year is to have all of the meals delivered by 10am Thanksgiving morning.

We are so happy to be a part of this thriving community and would not be able to offer our support without the help of our community partners including Moxie House & LCBC. Not to mention our team of returning volunteers Amanda Funk, Leigh Marxen, Millie Young, Anja Najera, Kathlene Sullivan & Vy Bahn.

From now until November 19th we are accepting monetary donations from the community to aid in our efforts to feed 500 this Thanksgiving. Donations from the fund drive will be used to purchase the ingredients to make the meals. Our goal is to raise $5,000, which means $10 is all it takes to supply a hearty, belly warming meal this holiday. Remaining funds will be given to the Power Packs Project for their continued efforts throughout the year. Any bulk food remaining from the day’s festivities will be donated to the Transitional Living Center (TLC), a non-profit organization in Lancaster that offers supportive services for homeless individuals, couples, and families experiencing homelessness.

We hope that you take as much pride in our Lancaster community and we do and will help us feed 500. Please donate today and share what you are thankful for using the hashtag #Feed500
